Any one intersted in taking the conceal carry class on June 28th please contact me. Those signing up first are guaranteed a spot on the roster. Prepayment of 35.00 not required but I expect class to fill up quick. Classroom part will be held at the station with live fire being held at Charle's Mclaurin's residence.

You do have to go to Davidson CC for the practicals but it looks like you can several classes and knock out all of the practicals on one or two days.

The Conceal Carry Class will be held at EFD on April 5th. Anyone wishing to take this class should contact me IMMEDIATELY. Cost of class is 35.00 per person (minimum of ten would be 40.00).Classroom portion will begin at 9:00 am at EFD.Afterwards the class will resume the handgun shooting qualifications at Charles McLaurin's or similar location.You will need your choice of handgun to shoot and 30 rounds of ammo to qualify.If you have any questions please feel free to call me.If you are serious about taking this class do not delay in getting in touch with me before it gets filled up.

As we look around at our surroundings on different calls we go to we (including ME) sometimes fail to see some of the "hidden" dangers that are right in front of us.It's sometimes hard to see these things when you are dealing with an emergency situation. It happens to all of us..regardless who you are. That's where our safety officer comes in.I guess some people may be annoyed or a bit irritated when confronted or being corrected regarding a safety issue..BUT..we have to realize it's for our own good.I've listed a couple of links below to anyone that would like to check them out...very good information.One of the things that amazes me is how many firefighters we lose due to not wearing a seatbelt.Just in the past month THREE were killed..one in NC..none wearing seatbelts.One of the things we HAVE to remind ourselves is to buckle up..in our own vehicles and the emergency vehicles.Take a close look at the website listed below...firefightersclosecalls..you will be amazed at what you find there.Read about the pledge...and lets do it.

Governor Easley orders burning ban reinstated due to drought and approach of spring fire season effective at noon February 14, 2008. The ban covers all open fires more than 100 feet from an occupied dwelling. Regulation of fires within the 100' zone falls under the authority of county and local officials.

The N.C. Division of Forest Resources has started issuing a $100 fine, instead of warning tickets, to anyone violating the ban on open burning.

By now I guess most of you know Mikey has made it safely to Iraq. Still recuperating I guess from his last meal at Hooters! It appears the camp he's headed to is a good place to be..lot's of food and internet access,something Mikey is very fond of...and I hear the camels don't talk much!

In most everyone's lifetime enters a person that has high impact on them. For me Woody Cherry was one of those persons.When I joined the fire department it didn't take long to find out just what kind of person Woody was. It was apparent from day one who he was and what he stood for..as we all know Woody didn't believe in "gray" areas.He was a perfectionist..always wanting things done as they should be...the right way.. and never taking the shortcuts. He was a true friend and confidant..one you could trust with your life, as many times, fellow firefighters have. There are so many things I could say here...but if you look to your left and right here today the person beside you would tell you the same. I am grateful and proud to be called his friend as he valued friendships more than anything on earth...except for his love for his family and his Lord. .Myself and fellow firefighters at Eastover Fire Department are proud to have served with such a man. His devotion to the department and community will be missed terribly.Although we grieve today in his passing we all know he is up there above...probably asking God which lake is best to try first. And I hope one day to be fishing with him again.We love you man.
